Regional economic development
The theory and practice of regional economic development is rapidly evolving. We work in partnership with the Institute of Public Policy at the Auckland University of Technology (which delivers the post graduate diploma in economic development). The current focus of our work with the Institute is performance assessment of economic development agencies, a project which is being developed in conjunction with the Economic Development Association of New Zealand.
By using us for advice on your economic development strategies, policies and implementation you gain:
- Our in-depth skills in designing governance, contracting arrangements and assessment measures for economic development activity (in-house or arms’ length).
- Direct linkages to international expertise and experience.
- An ability based on years of experience to ensure that economic development strategies and processes fit the needs and opportunities of local communities.
Feature project
Over the period 2003-2005, in partnership with the Institute of Public Policy and NZIER, we undertook a major capability building project for locality based EDAs in the Auckland region. This included extensive reviews of international experience with developing and implementing economic development strategies, options for the governance and management of economic development activity and the development of a new assessment tool now recognised as “best practice” for assessing the performance of EDAs.
See the library for an overview of the project.
